Colors of the Heart 4th single

Colors of the Heart is an excellent single that no UVERfan should miss. Excluding the fact that all the 3 songs are fresh to our ears, UVERworld themselves are really proud at the outcome of this single.

The single started off with the opening song for Blood+, a song with a dark genre, Colors of the Heart, followed by SORA, a much gentler song than the first. The single ends off with one of UVERworld's slowest song till date - hitori jya nai kara. See the pattern?

Though I haven't seen the translation for SORA and hitori jya nai kara yet, it seems that this single revolves around a dark theme, telling us all the hardships there are in live but we have to stay strong, and we will overcome it eventually. To me, this is what the whole single is about and it is a good one to listen to whenever you are feeling angsty. It constantly reminds me that there is no problem that you can't overcome.

One thing that I don't really like about this single is the massive difference between the 1st track and the 2nd track. Till date, I still fail to really appreciate SORA because Colors of the Heart stays long in my mind once I listen to it. Hitori jya nai kara also doesn't stand out very well against the first 2 tracks. As individual songs, these 2 Bsides are excellent but they can't hold a candle with Colors of the Heart.

Considering that this is a new style of UVERworld's, they really pull it off very well. This is not a bias opinion of a fangirl but I am confident UVERworld has the potential to go far.

I am unable to give comments for the DVD because I haven't seen it yet.

Final verdict: 9/10
Many would think this is a little over-rated if you do not like the song Colors of the Heart because to me, it is pretty much the only highglight of this single.

Colors of the Heart

COLORS OF THE HEART is definitely my favourite song from UVERworld till date. I never got tired listening to this song and within 3 weeks, it managed to surpass my all-time favourite song Houkiboshi by Younha.

1. The instrumental. I used a programme and removed the main vocal from the song and I was totally impressed with the music. It has a unique melody and the accompaniment totally blends with it. The background voice also suits TAKUYA∞'s (Vo & Programming) vocal perfectly. He never fails to amaze me on how he can write such beautiful music with a limited note range (from low A to middle A with limited low F and middle B) The main elements in the instrumentals are the guitars, bass and Takuya's programming.

2. The lyrics. It is a really inspirational song as it constantly reminds me that there is no problem that we can not solve and that we cannot always rely on other people. Fate lies in our hands and it is up to us to change it.

3. The feeling that this song gave me. To me, this song is somewhat mysterious. The first few times I heard it, I thought it was just some kind of normal pop rock song that gives a dark and heavy feeling. Upon hearing a few more times, it is not that simple. It totally depends on my mood. At certain times, this song actually sounded rather light and it makes you feel that you can do anything!

4. The effort put in by the members of UVERworld. It's actually rather obvious how much effort UVERworld spends on each of their music. This style is totally new compared to all their previous songs. I personally think this song alone is enough to surpass their album. The melody line is rich and filled with interesting chords.

5. 1+2+3+4 = I never get bored of this song. UVERworld always never fail to impress me with their constantly changing music styles. Hence, if I listen to one of their songs a little too much, I'll just have to listen to other songs. Believe it or not, I have listened to this song for 6 hours in a row before. On a personal rating scale, I would give it an 11/10 (maybe I am just biased)

Final verdict: 10/10

SORA

1. The lyrics. Definitely the inspirational kind of song. Life has its ups and downs, but everyone has their own dreams. Take that road towards it.

2. The feeling that this song gave me. High, floating, like the song suggest, fly far and away! It's not just the lyrics but also the melody that makes you feel like soaring (sora-ing).

3. AWESOME! Rating: 9.5/10. Even when I didn't understand the lyrics initially, I can feel the song through the melody and the random english words. That's music.

Hitori Jya Nai Kara

Many would disagree with me but I think this track is better than SORA. I confess, I didn't really pay much attention to Hitori jya nai kara at first because the melody line is just plain boring. I can remember clearly I only started appreciating this song after I read that Nobuto cried when he first heard this song.

Upon listening to it a couple of times, I have a totally different view and below are just a few things I could highlight from this song and they are mostly personal opinions:

1. The lyrics. I don't know much about the Japanese language so I can't fully understand the lyrics. One thing I know, it is probably a song that is written by Takuya for the rest of his comrades. The title hitori jya nai kara means 'you are not alone'. I infer that since the members of UVERworld have to leave their hometown for Tokyo to fulfill their dreams, they only have each other to depend on. Even if the lyrics of the song doesn't mean this, whenever I listen to this song, it'll constantly remind me of the hardships the members of UVERworld have to go through to get this far.

2. The instrumental as a whole. Compared to Colors of the Heart, this song has a melody line that is not developed well enough. A simple instrumental but effective in bringing in emotions. Takuya's vocal parts fit in very well with the simpleness of this song, making use of the elements of rapping and motor rhythm to bring in the sad feelings. The introduction gives the song a nice start but the ending is pretty disappointing. The bridge and ending is too plain and would probably have been better with the addition of secondary instruments like piano.

It really depends on my mood, when I am feeling angsty, this song would rank very high on my personal chart. The rating might rise if I know the meaning behind these lyrics. I will rewrite this when I find out the true meaning behind the song.

Final verdict: 7.5/10 (varies between 7.5 to 8.5)
