 just Melody 3rd single

Just Melody was their 1st freestanding singles. Perhaps that was the reason that had caused its not-so-well performance. Also, it might have been due to the fact that only about 2 songs are new. The 3rd was a repeat of D-TecnoLife, except it was a Ryu Kyu Disko Mix. Most would think that it was not really worth it, hence the sale suffered.

Starting with Just Melody, which gives somewhat a lighter feeling, followed by Revolve, a darker theme, and then D-TecnoLife which is... quite fast paced.

I would say the line up, Just Melody and Revolve is not bad. Both are the slower, emotional kind of songs, but at the same time have their own style. It sounds quite soothing actually. Then, put in D-TecnoLife mix and everything messed up. I seriously think they should replace the mix with something like Sora.

Final verdict: 9/10.
I’m quite critical of D-TecnoLife Mix as can see from above, but I hope you wouldn’t hate it because of my personal comments. By the way, please support the ‘Just Melody’ singles because I think it deserves more than that.

The limited edition of just Melody comes with the 15 minute footage of 'Welcome to UVERworld'. The complete version can be seen in the DVD that comes with Timeless (Special Edition). This DVD gives a small outlook on what UVERworld is all about. It started off with every member the definition of UVERworld. The subsequent minutes are all reserved to the opinions of some members on their singles and album. It also has a few seconds clip on the making of CHANCE! PV.

A few minutes are actually wasted on the showing of their first 3 PVs. I won't give this a rating or further details because I don't understand >...< Octoo~ Help! XD

just Melody

just Melody is a totally different style from their previous 2 A sides. A song with the theme 'spring' has a much lighter feel and carries beautiful melody line and lyrics that are not meant for inspirational purposes.

I am not good at interpreting lyrics unless it is really obvious so I pretty much have to guess what is the message behind the lyrics of just Melody. According to my own interpretation, it is just a song that tells a short story that takes place in spring. Though the lyrics itself doesn't really flow (or maybe it is because during the translation process, the meaning is lost), the words chosen are beautiful.

The melody line might sounds pretty draggy, but it complements with the lyrics very well so I have no complaints. In case you haven't realised, the music is written by both Takuya and Akira. This proves that even though Takuya is proficient in writing music, he wouldn't go far without the other members supporting him from behind.

This song is played in D flat major, a suitable key for slow songs like this. Usually, E flat major is a preferable choice but I guess D flat is used here to fit Takuya's vocal range. Still, D flat major works perfectly fine. If you try to write out the melody, you will find that it is actually a moderately simple one with limited note range. The notes are pretty much progressive and there are little huge leap of notes like those found in Colors of the Heart. I really can't explain it but it just works! If you think the melody line is complicated, you are delusioned due to it being in a major with 5 (freaking) flats. So I suppose this proves that a song does not need to possess unique melodies for people to like it.

Final verdict: 9/10
Would have a slightly higher rating if not for the release of the album version of just Melody.

As an UVERfan, I find this song a special one because it is one of the few where Takuya wrote the music with Akira (others being EXTREME, yasashisa no shizuku etc.). I am one who appreciates team effort more than individual. But don't worry, this is not taken into account to my final rating.

just Melody (album version)
just Melody album version has a different and longer introduction than the normal version. The guitar parts possesed a melodious tune, the echo effects that always come at the right time and the gradual addition of instruments give the song an excellent start. In fact, I have known many who love the introduction so much that they rip it and put it on repeat mode.

Final verdict: 9.75/10
Unlike D-tecnolife original and album version, the difference in the instrumental between these two songs are much more distinct.

The bad thing about both version is that they have a pretty long running time and they possess a slow tempo. It gets boring after some time. Hence, not many can continue listening to just Melody for hours. If you like Kimi no suki na uta, you should like this song and vice versa.

REVOLVE

1. The lyrics. Dark love song (at least that's what I've interpreted so far). Talks about loneliness at night while trying to fake a smile through it all? Well, not just loneliness at night but always there because everyone else is in pairs. 1st thing that came to mind when I tried to understand the lyrics is Blink 182's 'I Miss You'. They are quite different but I suppose the genre of lyrics is the same.

2. The feeling that this song gave me. Sad sad sad, dark, depressing and emo, even more so when I saw the lyrics. I felt that this song is very similar to SHINE, although the lyrics talk about different things, the feeling, the genre is about the same. Before I know the names of the songs, I always get them mixed up.

3. 1+2+3= An 8/10. Not a bad song, I'm able to listen to this for an hour already (but still no where near beating my Shamrock Piano record or Eve's Colors of the Heart). This has a higher rating than SHINE because the melody is slightly better and the ending sound like an ending (unlike SHINE).
